How Does Stubby Spend $25,000?

In the Daily News on Tuesday May 27th, there appeared an article on the dedication of the new war memorial. It talked about how our beloved mayor asked the state for $25,000 to "overhaul" the monument. At the dedication, the senator's aid, and daughter of the mayor, spoke of how the senator "sends his congratulations and appreciates all you (the mayor) do for the City of Duquesne."
xx
So, we ask, what about securing money for the benefit of the town? What about bringing in new business and not screwing the ones we have? What about cleaning up more than the memorial and clean up Grant Avenue? If you haven't noticed, the newly planted flowers in the park don't make the drug dealers any prettier. We hate to break this to you stubby but Dairy Mart, a barber shop, a women's clothing store and a couple of bars don't make a "shopping district!"
xx
By the way, have you seen the parklet at Grant and 837? Overgrown weeds, empty heroin packets and crack baggies, how inviting that is!

Hmmmmm....I am feeling torn. As a twice combat veteran with the US Marine Corps, I appreciate the idea of memorials and upkeep. However, if it is at the expense of cleaning up the town where needed, maybe that's an even better way to honor those who sacrificed so that we can all be free to enjoy life and safety....even on this blog.

I won't even drive down grant avenue anymore! I've seen the police parked on grant and the drug dealers and buyers pay them no mind! How about using some of that 25K for a couple of surveillance cameras?

Hell...for $25k I'll sit out there and do sketches of the drug activity all day.....

I do not agree with this particular posting. I think its great to clean up a monument that represents the soldiers from Duquesne and those who fought and died in our country's wars. It is a good thing that the Mayor got this money for this worthy cause.

Yes, the entire city is going to hell and if it isn't saved soon it will surely perish forever. The citizens of Duquesne are to blame for the city's demise. They elected these politicians and those politicians have steered the city into the abyss. I could be wrong, but the only person who has the balls to fix this city has since moved out. Mayor George Matta could fix it, but he could never be elected because of residency. Yes, the same department heads who run the city now were in under Matta, but at least he leaned on them and made them do something. He is a very driven person when he sets his mind to accomplish something.

Yes, I know, George is not perfect, but do you think there is anyone left in this town that has any business sense? Maybe some more projects or section 8 will lead the city to an economic recovery? Unfortunately, the town is cursed and doomed! It will never arise from the rubble and become a decent place to live. I am not asking for it to become Sewickly Heights, but how about not having my windows broken out, loud thumping music all hours of the night, and drug dealers conducting their business with diplomatic immunity.

Sorry folks, I tend to daydream sometimes; now, back to reality!

They cna spend the money to say they care about the Vet's, but proven time and time again they really don't. Isn't this the city that was in the paper for screwing over a veteran getting promoted to full time. Yes I think it was, They interpret the law any way they want. How would the government officials that sent that thank you like to know really how the City feels towards officers that serve their country!

I agree with the overhaul of this monument but will it really be done? Will it be done half ass and the other monies pocketed? As most everyone can attest to the city does just as they please they care nothing of the city, The police, The city crews they care only how to pad there own pockets. One shift there are an over load of officers the next its back to a 2 officers crew so sad.
